Live update: The first part of Resco’s visit to Cameroon with the UN Refugee Agency


You might have heard that Resco’s CTO, Miro Pomsar, and Field Service Business Development Manager, Andrew Lorraine are currently visiting Cameroon with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). They’ve been assisting with the roll-out of UNHCR’s brand new refugee population registration and identity management ecosystem, where Resco’s mobile app and field server play critical roles.
Now at the halfway point of their trip, take a closer look at what they’ve been up to in Central Africa so far.

Day 1 – Monday, March 4

Miro and Andrew arrived to Yaoundé, Cameroon’s capital, on Sunday night. On Monday they worked with UNHCR’s team members on the final optimization of the Resco Field Server and Rapid App – UNHCR’s fully customized version of the Resco mobile app for refugee registration. Often referred to as “Africa in miniature”, they also got to witness some of the country’s geological and cultural diversity during a 5 hour drive east, to the city of Bertoua.

Day 2 – Tuesday, March 5

In the village of Mobe, near Bertoua, the team observed and helped with the launch of Rapid App. Local UNHCR staff successfully registered families of refugees with the app. It enables to register people fleeing to Cameroon mostly from the Central African Republic at a much faster rate – providing more efficient services in an otherwise extremely stressful situation.

Day 3 – Wednesday, March 6

Stationed at the UNHCR office in Bertoua for the majority of Wednesday, Miro and Andrew worked with the local team on further enhancement of the refugee registration system. And in the afternoon another road trip awaits. The guys will be moving to the city of Batouri, from which they’ll be visiting some of the largest refugee sites in Cameroon implementing the Resco-based Rapid App and the new refugee registration system.
