MADhack 2016: What was the 2nd year of Resco’s mobile app development hackathon like?

MADhack – our mobile application development hackathon – returned to Bratislava, Slovakia (Resco’s hometown) on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2016. And young prospective developers had once again an opportunity to showcase their talent, working either on mobile apps of their own, or teaming up on projects proposed by the Resco development team.
On Friday evening, the attendees – most of whom were college and university students – were divided into teams of five and started to work on their projects. Experienced professionals from Resco advised the teams during the process. Two insightful lectures titled Introduction to Xamarin Forms and Build Your Web Mobile Apps were also part of the event. Overall, in two days participants could explore various aspects of mobile application development and enhance their programming skills.
Each team presented its project on Saturday evening. A jury headed by TouchIT’s Editor in Chief, Mr. Ondrej Macko, and Resco’s developers then awarded two teams with the Best Project and Best Design Awards. The attendees also were able to express their opinion choosing a project which then received the Attendee Award.
The jury awarded the Best Project honor to the team behind Meeto – an app that allows users to easily locate and connect with friends at various social and cultural events. The Best Design Award went to a mobile game project titled Adventure Phone. And BureauBot, an app helping foreigners to communicate with Slovak immigration authorities, took the Attendee Award as it collected the highest number of votes from the event participants.
At the end, Resco’s Senior Developer Juraj Mojik summarized the event: “The work that each team put into their project and the progress achieved in just a day and half was truly impressive. It once again proves that Slovakia is a country full of talented programmers capable of creating not only effective solutions for everyday use, but also fun apps that brighten people’s free time. We’re thrilled that at MADhack we could share insights and experience with familiar faces from last year and new talents alike, and we’re looking forward to the 2017 edition and hope that the mobile development community keeps on growing.”
