Quick tip: How to use new Resco Inspections data storage options
The Spring Update 2019 brought new data storage options for Resco Inspections, convenient especially when handling extensive questionnaires.
The data-driven architecture of questionnaires allows great flexibility, without the need to create metadata on the backend system. However, representing each question and answer as a record could be inefficient when handling questionnaires with hundreds or even thousands of questions.
How to change your questionnaire data storage preference
1. To select a data storage option for a particular questionnaire template, create a new or open an existing questionnaire in the Designer.
2. In the Questionnaire panel on the right, you can then immediately choose from available storage options for the Answer Storage field – Records, JSON, Compressed JSON (the default setting is Records).
And that’s it! Just don’t forget to Save and Activate your questionnaire when finished.
However, saving an entire questionnaire in a single file can make integrating with business intelligence and reporting tools more challenging. That’s why we’re already planning to introduce a so-called “hybrid” storage option in the upcoming Resco Inspections update. It will enable users to pick a storage option for each question individually. That way, you can have the parts of a questionnaire which are essential for BI stored as records, while others can be saved in a JSON file.
