Resco Photo Viewer is an image viewer and manager offering the richest set of features among all competing Palm viewers.
Main Features
Digital Camera Support
View JPEG image files directly from your external expansion Card. (Memory Card, Memory Stick etc.) You can even pop your Card right out of a digital camera and view the image on your Palm OS handheld. And that all while the Resco Photo Viewer is running!
Several built-in cameras used across Palm devices are supported, too. These cameras often produce images in non-standard format and store them in the handheld RAM. You can find such images under RAM/Camera folder and view them or convert to standard jpeg format for use with other applications (mailers etc.)
Categories and Favorites
While Resco Viewer primarily displays image folders in the form they exist on the device (e.g. card directories), you can define your own hierarchy.
And you don't need to limit yourself to classical Palm categories such as Private, Family, Holidays etc. Instead, you can define your own tree of any complexity. For example you can define Holidays subcategories 2003, 2004 etc .
There are no limits except the handheld memory and your imagination.
Explorer interface
Resco Photo Viewer supports multiple expansion cards including virtual cards (RAM disks) and various image objects found in the RAM — all presented in the familiar desktop Explorer style interface.
But it is not only the presentation — you can also use familiar features such as drag&drop, popup menus. Use Shift indicator to select a group of images. And you can drag them all at once. The same for info, delete etc — simply a complete multiselection support.
Things like management of your image files or folders, moving images between Card and main memory etc. can be handled in an intuitive way without learning or using specialized tools.
Explorer is highly customizable: you can select different layouts, report columns, startup folder, thumbnail size etc.

Image Exchange
Exchange images using Infrared, Bluetooth or another available transport technology with other handhelds (of Palm or non-Palm origin), with cell phones, printers etc. Jpeg images can be received even without any VFS card.
Resco Viewer can be used to preview jpeg attachments of your e-mails, multi-page tiff faxes. The viewer seamlessly co-operates with Resco Explorer.
Resco Viewer supports dynamic exchange of expansion cards as well as dynamic reception of beamed files.
Image editing, cropping and other features
Image editing: zoom, rotation, changing brightness, contrast etc.
Image cropping: This feature can be combined with the downscale, which makes it an ideal tool for preparation of images sent from the handheld via e-mail.
Image annotation with text notes
Private and encrypted images
Presentation of the exif information stored in the digital photos
RAM/file conversions (e.g. when receiving beamed Jpeg file into card-less handheld)
Enhanced Slideshow
Standard Slideshow lets you select transition effects and several other options.
Custom Slideshow goes a lot further and allows mixing of images, songs and text in various ways.
Every image has independent attributes: Duration, effect, text notes, audio.
You can use one song (mp3, wav, ogg or m3u playlists) for the whole slideshow, or use the song for a group of images, or show the image while the song plays.
Audio relies either on Pocket Tunes or built-in Palm player (if any).
Picture albums and Resco Album Generator
Album is a read-only set of images packed as one unit - file or database. Albums are created with the Resco Album Generator and can be exchanged with Resco Picture Viewer for Pocket PC.
The Album Generator is a Windows Desktop application distributed as part of the Resco Photo Viewer.
Besides its primary function — generation of (.rab) albums — this package extends the set of supported formats to .tif and .png files as well as to Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.
It offers basic image editing techniques as well as color transformation schemes suitable for devices with a reduced color palette.
The Album Generator is built in an intuitive wizard style. (See Guided Tour.) However, the advanced users may prefer smart drag&drop control that can be used both to add the new images, folders etc. and to the image sorting.
Known Problems:
- Photobase
Resco Viewer and Photobase use the same creatorID. (It is not our fault.)
It means the 2 apps cannot coexist, i.e. the launcher will show only one of them. Therefore prior to install Resco Viewer you have to delete Photobase. (And vice versa.)
If you happened to install both apps, the procedure is the same: Delete the one shown in the launcher and install the app you want.
- Mac/Linux installation
We apologize to Mac/Linux users but at the time we do support only the Windows desktop. You can use Resco Viewer as a stand-alone application the same way as many other viewers work. To install use please zip or prc format available on our download page.
Note that you can use any Mac or Linux platform and its Palm Hot-sync program to download on your Palm your pictures and the Resco Photo Viewer. See more
