Keyboard Pro wont install on XDA EXEC after demo Uninstall
Send Reply Send Quoted Reply
I have the same issue (almost) as the dell guy but with an XDA Exec (MW5.0) Surprise

Installed the demo version from PocketLand as part of a special priced version. I though before i would try it out for a number of days. Liked the product with only one small problem. I had installed the German Version (no knowledge of german whatsoever) even though i was using the Greek Layout..

Before the end of my trial i decided to purchase the proper English version and install that since functionality wise the programm was working fine. Did so but tried to uninstall the previous version. WM complaint that it could not uninstall. Went to Windows Startup directory and deleted an RKBinit link ( i assume this was the start point of the DLL). In the mean time the download had finished and tried to install. Got the message that the i am doing a re-install hence the old version needs to be removed and i sayd yes... Again it failed but went on to try and install... which came up with the choose layout screen. Unfortunately the layout list was empty and when i Ok'ed it.. it said that it failed.

Tried installing on a storage card Tongue Tied no game. Tried the installed with the update Sad no game. Tried the cab on its own executed from the PDA.. Crying no game as well.. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Point to make. It seems that the problem was because the uninstall was unsuccesfull.. Doesnt the uninstall kill the process before trying to uninstall.?

Regards
George

I think i managed to sort it.

What i did was.. Open the cab with WinZip.. That gave me an idea of the files installed with the software... Aparrently a file was not uninstalled and the installed was unable to overwrite it.

The files i found out were...
\widnows\startup\Rkbdinit.lnk
\windows\Rkbdinit.exe
\windows\RkbdSrv.dll
\windows\RKeyboard.bin
\windows\RKeyboard.htm
\windows\RUpdate.exe
and in the device or in the programs directory the whole Resco directory.

In my case i found 2 odd thinks about these files.
a) The RUpdate was always there (not uninstalled maybe)
b) the RKeyboard.bin file was 0 bytes long... (not installed correctly maybe)

My resolution was to delete ALL of the above and reset... if you get a msg during start that an file is missing it probably on of the above and the delete failed. Some of these are system files. BECAREFULL not to elete anything else in the windows directry (not a good idea)

After that i reinstalled. the installation screeen had the layouts listed and all.. another soft-reset and software is working ok..

Regards
George

ps. do not delete unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing. Angel

This is actually not a problem of Resco Keyboard but it is well know crucial bug of the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system appearing mostly on HTC devices (XDA, MDA, QTEK, Imate, Dopod,...).
You can find out more at our special FAQ or throughout the web at forums specialized on WM 5.0.
We spend a lot of time trying to solve this problem but it is deeply in the WM 5.0 installer and we cannot do anything with it. We have to wait for Microsoft to patch it.

We have made a beta version doing the cleanup before installation. If you are ready to try it, you can download it from:

http://resco.net/downloads/Patch/RKeyb_Patch060814.cab (CAB)

Please let me know if it works on your device (we are not able to reproduce these problems on our devices). Thank you.

I have the same problem with my XDA Neo. On the end of instalation I got to choos keyboard layout, but in comboboxes there are no entries, and if I continue, than installation is not finished.

I have tried also patched version, but still the same problem

anyway, finaly I made it to work on my XDA Neo... it is a bit complicated, but on the end works:

- Install it on SD card (or some other storage card)
- copy two folders from your storage card "Storage Card\Program Files\Resco\Languages" and "Storage Card\Program Files\Resco\KeybSkin" in "Program Files\Resco\*" (create it if doesnt exists).
- start again installation and now install in on Device (Soft reset is needed, but you will be asked from installer)

I hope this will help to someone...

regards,
im

I had this problem too.

I ran the clean-up file that is shown in the Photo Viewer forum (Problem Installing 6.30).  Then I manually had to delete the file rkeyboard.bin in the windows directory of your device - It is a read only file that the clean-up utility won't delete.

Then I installed the patched program - and Poof it installed correctly.

To end the process go to Start>Settings>Input, In the drop down bix choose other keyboard then Resco Keyboard (e.g. Kyeboard - built-in) and soft reset the device. Now you will be able to uninstall it. Or reinstall.
